Self-Nurturance
The month of August is a wake-up call that the
summer is winding down and the fall is soon
approaching. Now is a good time to think about how
you would like to spend the remaining days of what,
for many, is the most relaxing time of year. Consider
using this slower paced time to begin to take better
care of yourself. August can be the month that you
initiate your journey to self-nurturance.
Infertility is often a crisis for those people going
through it. It can be draining emotionally, physically,
and spiritually. In order to continue to pursue future
medical interventions with the greatest chance of
success, it is in your best interest to be as refreshed
as possible.
Self-nurturance is a way to fill-up your energy
tanks. It is also a way to help reduce some of the
emotional distress (such as sadness and anxiety)
that accompanies infertility. Acts of self-nurturance
do not have to take a lot of time, nor do they have
to
cost a great deal of money. Just let your imagination
run wild as you begin to explore the various things
that make you feel good again.
Here are a few things that people find nurturing:
taking a walk outside, taking a yoga class, doing
something with your hands (e.g., making pottery,
crafts, etc.), getting a manicure and/or pedicure,
escaping to the movies. Create your own list and
then commit to doing at least one self-nurturing
thing each day. It will make a difference but you
have to do it on a regular basis to reap the rewards.
Let me know about your experience! Best of luck.
