Fertility Yoga Warrior II Pose
by Monica Morell, Ph.D.
For those who are struggling with infertility, every
day can be a battle of sorts. The journey can be
highly charged, very consuming, and often
misunderstood by those around us. Through it all,
we learn that life is not perfect - we are not
perfect. A yoga practice -- specifically a
fertility yoga practice -- can help us to shed our
battle fatigues and walk our path, bumps and all.
What is fertility yoga? It is a
restorative sequence of yoga poses that helps us
make the connection between the spirit and the body.
The sequence of breath and movement in a fertility
yoga session specifically focuses on reproductive
and hormonal balance. Many of the poses in a
fertility yoga practice will help us tune up and
align our reproductive health.
Here, let's take a look at one of those poses now
(excerpted from Fertility Yoga with Monica Morell,
PhD video).
Warrior II Pose (Virabhadrasana
II) How Does the Warrior II Pose help?
Besides being therapeutic for infertility, Warrior
II seems to help us increase our stamina and
determination.
*How To Do Warrior II Pose. Step your right foot
forward and left foot back. Spin your left foot out
so it is at a 90- or 60-degree angle, whatever feels
most comfortable. Bend your right knee so that it
is stacked directly above your ankle. Pull your
right hip back and your left hip forward. Long,
strong back leg press down through the edge of your
back foot, wit the little toe pressing into the mat.
Bring your arms downward to shoulder height until
they are parallel with the mat, palms facing down
toward the earth. Right arm forward extended over
front thigh, left arm back extended over back leg.
Gaze at your right middle finger. Engage your
breath. Press through the outer edge of your back
foot. Pull your shoulders away from your ears.
Relax your shoulders.
Until
next month, be well, practice your yoga and think
fertile thoughts!
Blessings, Monica

| Fertility Recipe |
| |
Infertility affects men as well as
women.
For men,
zinc and arginine are two important nutrients to
enhance fertility. Zinc has been shown to increase
testosterone levels, sperm count and sperm motility.
Dietary sources include oysters, lean beef, organ
meats, turkey, lamb, wheat germ and nuts
Arginine is an amino acid produced from the
digestion of protein. It may also help with sperm
count and sperm motility. Dietary sources include
meat, poultry, fish, dairy and nuts.
Here is a recipe that provides these two key
nutrients.
Gingered Beef and Peppers
1 pound of lean top sirloin; 1/4 cup of low sodium
soy sauce; 1 1/2 peeled, minced ginger; 1/4 tsp
crushed red pepper;
4 cloves of garlic, minced; 1 1/2 cups canned no
salt added beef broth; 2 Tbsp plus 2 tsp
cornstarch; 2 tsp peanut oil, divided;
1 cup julienne red pepper; 1 cup julienne yellow
pepper; 1 1/2 cups snow peas; 3 green onions; sliced
into 1/2 inch pieces
Cut beef into 1 1/2 inch pieces; Combine soy and
next 3 ingredients in a ziploc bag. Add steak, seal
bag and shake until steak is well coated.
Marinate for 4 hours. Drain steak and reserve
marinade. Combine marinade, beef broth and
cornstarch. Stirfry peppers and
snow peas in a wok with 1 tsp of the peanut oil.
Remove and set aside. Add remaining tsp of oil to
wok. Add steak and green onions.
Stirfry until desired degree of doneness. Add pepper
and snowpeas. Remove from heat and serve over rice.
This recipe serves 4.
